Winter festivities look a little different for all of us this year. Fuel Life is committed to saving the Christmas spirit through our inclusive virtual cooking class. We will be stirring up creative, plant-based editions of traditional holiday dishes. Join us remotely in this fun-packed, interactive two-hour session. All of the ingredients are accessible at local grocery stores. You will be surprised how easy it is to incorporate healthy, sustainable options into your kitchen routine! Cartems executive chef, Rajesh Narine, will be working his magic by providing step-by-step instructions on how to prepare a three-course meal and drink. Mikkie Nettles, holistic nutritionist, and Samantha Petrin, naturopathic doctor candidate, will provide the educational piece. They'll discuss the science of nutrition and the impact our choices play on our health. This event is by donation, plus the cost of ingredients. All proceeds will be going to the Vancouver Food Bank, so that more of us can enjoy the comforts of a holiday meal.

The holidays are a the time of giving, especially during difficult times like these. As a social enterprise, one of Fuel Life’s core values is to serve the community. We believe health is not just for those with money!  As such, all the proceeds from our holiday edition cooking class will be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank so more people can enjoy a delicious meal this holiday season. The Greater Vancouver food back purchases and distributes approximately 4.97 million pounds of food each year. They have double the amount of buying power due to their scale and unique position in the local food system, maximizing the impact of donors’ generous contributions. Rajesh Narine

Rajesh "Rags" Narine is a chef who loves to create! Rags is the creator of the recipes of Cartems Donuts, an iconic independant chain in Vancouver whose flavours are renowned for being innovative and tantalizing. Rags has a bevy of experience in the industry, and has made both savory and sweet concoctions to much fanfare. Learning from some of the best chefs in Vancouver, he has applied his knowledge to create food experiences for many, and is excited to create even more!

Samantha Petrin

Samantha Petrin is a naturopathic doctor candidate who's love for nutrition grew alongside her love for cooking. When she became plant-based, 7 years ago, she wanted to do it right and dove into the world of nutrition. Now after completing her naturopathic medical program, including 4 years of clinical nutrition, and additional courses including Dr Klaper's Master Class in Plant Based Clinical Nutrition, she is excited to share her knowledge and passion for food.

Mikkie Nettles

Mikkie Nettles is a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and a mother of 4. She knows the importance of bringing nutritious healthy foods to the table that everyone enjoys. Informing you on what foods carry benefits to your health from foods and spices that carry pre & probiotics, enzymes, phytonutrients, are anti-inflammatory, metabolic boosters, have high antioxidant qualities to getting in enough fiber. Also explaining different dishes, in how to make sure you have a full protein (amino acid) profile, healthy fats and low glycemic carbohydrates. The importance of the balance in these important macronutrients and in what ratio’s. Understanding what can spike blood sugar levels, hypertension or what foods could cause blockage in your arteries.
